GIAN MAGANA

GIAN MAGANA is a freelance fotograffer and fotojournalist based in Seattle. His discipline of photography is in the realms of street, documentary, and a 1st Amendment advocate. Regardless of his expertise, the artist could not care less about "beginner" or "expert" titles.

Diagnosed with autism and with ADHD tendencies. The artist strives to keep his temperament under control wherever life and people's opinions are thrown at him.

HE will be an outsider to any society in the world. It should be a blessing when one does not fit in a town or place until a collective group of people naturally welcomes him.

Gian Magana currently resides in Bremerton in Kitsap County with his dad. An hour ferry ride across Puget Sound.

Gian aims to visit Portland 9 times. All of his visits will be photojournalism and street photography. While places like Tigard and Clark County is considered.

HiS Preference

  • Gian often uses styles, approaches, and thinking that go against groupthink and formal education.

  • Unlike colour, black and white images are easier to work with their settings of contrast, exposure, etc...

  • Photography for him is not about the gear and technology itself. It is through free speech, self-expression, and advocacy. He is giving back to towns and communities by sharing his art.

  • Gian has an appetite for fashionable young women. Particularly Asian women. Cosplay and gravure photoshoots are his thoughts for portraiture works. Not a larger family portrait. Eventually, Gian may start opening up with TFP (trade for prints) photoshoots.

  • While doing street photography. Gian the artist, employs a "First Amendment Audit" approach on the streets, parks, and public sidewalks. The approach will extend with small business brick-and-mortar where picture windows are large enough for passersby and random people (like myself) to check and peep on. This is not a peeping tom if blinds and curtains are not draped down the window.
